Healthy Eating and Exercising

For many this time of year can be stressful and difficult to manage, and that's before you add time in to exercise!  The average American can gain up to one pound per week between Thanksgiving and New Year's, which is about a 6 lb. weight gain!  The weight usually isn't lost in the following year, so this is one of the critical reasons we continue to see an annual increase in people's waistlines.

Don't become one of the statistics!  The last month of the year may not be the ideal time for you to start a new exercise program, however, that doesn't give you an excuse to "wait until January" to begin your workout routine.  Think of things that you can do easily to increase your movement and shed some calories during your daily holiday-stress crazed routine.

Fit In Some Movement

We all know the usual suggestions, and the one that always comes to mind is to park further away from the mall entrance. Seriously?!?!  Have you been to Costco lately?  Who has time to park far away and haul all of their groceries/packages across the parking lot.  Plus, it's always more satisfying to annoy the driver behind you by driving at a snail's pace while you follow the poor soul who is schlepping their bags to the ideal spot located 2 spaces away from Handicap parking.

So let's get real and come up with some more entertaining ways to make a dent in the annual creep to obesity.  I'm going to share my personal favorites, and I hope that you try a few and see if they work for you.

1.  Squat Hop the Parking Lot:  We slaved to get the ideal parking spot located near the front and now we need to work off the adrenaline that built up while we fought for our hard-earned space!  Why bother leisurely walking to the entrance?  We want people to think there's something inside that they MUST HAVE NOW!  Not to mention we have approximately 6 lbs of blubber waiting to attach itself to our behinds, so let's get moving!  Fire up those beautiful glutes and start hopping the parking lot all the way to the entrance.  Don't forget to sink into those glutes and ignite those quads and inner thighs.  Worried about what others may say to you?  Invite them to join the fun!  Squat Hops are always better when enjoyed with friends, so it's a perfect opportunity to meet someone new and teach them a cutting edge fitness technique.
